We’re proud to present the debut Fool’s Gold release from our first band, The Suzan! Starting today you can pick up “Home” (with b-side “Uh Ah”) on iTunes and colored vinyl 7″ single wrapped front to back in psychedelic sleeve art from Dust La Rock. Preview it as RCRD LBL’s “RCRD Of The Day”:
In case you missed their irresistible performances at our CMJ and SXSW showcases, here’s the deal: The Suzan are a boundlessly energetic all-girl band from Japan with a knack for melding jangly, unconventional melodies and keyboard grooves into a sound all their own. Their unique charm and sweetly funky, hard-to-pin-down pop has captivated Bjorn Yttling of Peter, Bjorn and John – who they convinced to be their producer with a MySpace message! – and everyone else they encounter, from The Fader (“Full-on hyperactive bopping around the dancefloor steez.”) to Perez Hilton (“These girls are so adorable… will put a smile on your face!”)
“Home” sets the stage for The Suzan’s full-length LP, Golden Week For The Poco Poco Beat, out this fall on Fool’s Gold / Downtown. It’s effervescent, moody, and (if we humbly say so) one of the best albums of the year! But don’t take our word for it, come check them rocking the free Jelly Pool Party on 8/22 at East River Park in Brooklyn, an all-Fool’s Gold family affair with Chromeo, Kid Sister, Telephoned and more also performing.

We’re getting pretty excited for the release of The Suzan’s Fool’s Gold debut this Summer – and you should be too! The Bjorn Yttling-produced compendium of jams is ready to drop in August, with an official single for “Home” (our first 7″!) before then. Full details coming very soon… meanwhile follow the band on Twitter and their blog for new pics and other Japan adventures!

About time! Like we do every spring, the whole fam went down to Austin a few weeks back for SXSW. Our artists had tons of shows and guest sets to hit, but the pieces de resistance were the two FG events: the Texas Takeover at Republic Live, and the official FG SXSW Showcase at Malverde. Strictly best-of-the-best DJs, MCs, and even some new rock-n-rollers. Party! Whistles!

Head over to The Fader blog for the premier of The Suzan’s “Home,” produced by Bjorn Yttling of Peter Bjorn and John. We’ll be dropping it on a limited-edition 7″ later this spring, and it will also appear on the Suzan’s full-length Fool’s Gold album this summer. “Cool joy” pretty much sums it up!

Our girls The Suzan have been spending the past few weeks as Brooklyn residents getting their rock on around town – between the FG CMJ showcase and various gigs around town (you saw the vids!) it was quite the run! They will be going back to Japan next week, but luckily there’s still two chances left to party with them: tonight at Cake Shop (free show, The Suzan on at 10pm, Bjorn Yttling from Peter Bjorn and John DJing) and tomorrow night at the Living Room (11pm). Don’t miss it…
