Foolcast 014 – Neal Santos “Un Verano En Nueva York”

Posted on Jun 4th, 2010 by Mr Goldbar

In an interview a few years back about his brand Team Works, Neal Santos described his vision thusly: “Quality stuff, shit that won’t fall apart after the first wash. And for inspirations, it’s fuckin’ not even so much that it’s New York shit, it’s just shit that hits home. Enough of the bite of the bite of the bite of the funny logo bite. Show me something real, something heartfelt, something that actually means something. Show me. I don’t care if it’s a full print. Nigga, it could be a oversize full print. I might have to wear a turtleneck but you know, if it’s real, dude hook me up.”

This attitude perfectly sums up why Neal has been a longtime NYC creative fixture (and friend of FG since Fat Beats!), and why we asked him to put together the first Foolcast of the Summer. It’s hot out here!

Foolcast 010: Dave Nada “Moombahton Megamix”

Posted on Mar 29th, 2010 by Mr Goldbar

Moombahton is the latest obsession of our pal Dave Nada, who stumbled upon the sound when taking a break from his Nadastrom duties to DJ a cousin’s high-school skip party. Seriously.

This megamix includes a bunch of his own moombahton morphs, a sprinkling of FG fam, and a lot of 108 bpm smiles.

Foolcast 008 + 009: Four Color Zack + DJ Sneak

Posted on Feb 12th, 2010 by Mr Goldbar

Just in time for Valentines day, here’s two schmoove Foolcast mixes courtesy of our friends Four Color Zack and DJ Sneak!

FCZ is up first with his “Bang, Hard.” mix, featuring some of his favorite recent (and not so recent) jams from the “darker, more experimental” side of R&B. House hero DJ Sneak provides “For The Ladies, Vol 1″ with his signature house take on the holiday’s luv-ed up vibes, an hour and change of feel-good vocals and some very unexpected remix choices.

Foolcast 007: Vin Sol “Swap Meet Heat”

Posted on Jan 20th, 2010 by Mr Goldbar

Longtime FG homie Vin Sol (of CALiGULA) recently made the leap from his native SF to good ole Brooklyn. Which means hangin out on the reg, good times on the reg, records on the reg!

His “Swap Meet Heat” mix for the Foolcast collects some of his favorite 12″ finds dug up since the big move (and spending every weekend hitting flea markets with Dust La Rock). It’s an extremely tasty collection of disco nugs, forgotten pop, jheri curl r&b, and more – it’s not about obscure records, just fun ones, which has always been an essential component of the Fool’s Gold approach to music.

Foolcast 003: Gina Turner “Daaamn Gina!”

Posted on Aug 21st, 2009 by Mr Goldbar

Pic from Last Nights Party

When our homegirl Gina Turner told us she wanted to contribute a mix for the Foolcast series, we told her it was only on the condition that she title it “Daaamn Gina!” – it’s finally here, and boy is that a theme!

Subscribe to our Foolcast series via iTunes or your favorite RSS reader at the main page (you can also download Gina’s mix directly there). And be sure to bump this hip house-inspired labor of love in your Iroc-Z all summer – check the tracklist, which is as now-school as it is throwback, including a brand new tune Gina and Laidback Luke whipped up together as “Nouveau Yorican,” after the jump.

And in case you missed em, be sure to grab the Nacho Lovers and Congorock Foolcasts POST HASTE! Read More

Foolcast 002: Congorock “The Furious Years”

Posted on Jun 1st, 2009 by Mr Goldbar

Volume 2 of the FOOLCAST series comes from none other than our own Italian electro prodigy Congorock, but it’s not what you might expect. We listen to all kinds of stuff at FG HQ and want the FOOLCAST to reflect that – so we asked him to put together a mix of some of his punk and hardcore favorites that would show off a different side of his personality and keep things musically unpredictable on the blog.

Says Rocco: Hey brothers, here’s my hardcore punk mix for Fool’s Gold. I wanted to call it “The Furious Years” like something related to the past – its old stuff (nothing after 2003) that I listened to when I was younger. It was total fun working on this because I rediscovered music I didnt remember at all! I put some tracks from my old bands (La Quiete and Death Of Anna Karina), Steve Aoki sings on the This Machine Kills track (his old band), and there’s even a His Hero Is Gone track called “Fool’s Gold”. I hope you like it!

Download the podcast (and subscribe to the whole series to get future mixes as soon as they drop!) at iTunes or via your favorite RSS reader at the FG podcast page. Tracklist after the jump, more heat on the way!

Update: For more Conogorock on the club tip, check out his Keep Watch party mix at the Mishka Bloglin. Ay! Read More
