Foolcast 007: Vin Sol "Swap Meet Heat"

Posted on Jan 20th, 2010

Longtime FG homie Vin Sol (of CALiGULA) recently made the leap from his native SF to good ole Brooklyn. Which means hangin out on the reg, good times on the reg, records on the reg!

His “Swap Meet Heat” mix for the Foolcast collects some of his favorite 12″ finds dug up since the big move (and spending every weekend hitting flea markets with Dust La Rock). It’s an extremely tasty collection of disco nugs, forgotten pop, jheri curl r&b, and more – it’s not about obscure records, just fun ones, which has always been an essential component of the Fool’s Gold approach to music.

Subscribe to the Foolcast via iTunes or your favorite RSS reader at the main Foolcast page, where you can also download the mix directly (right click and save-as). Check Vin rocking a party near you, and check his tracklist after the jump. Read More

Rappin Ass Thursdays #29

Posted on Jan 7th, 2010

Before I get to brand new music in this young decade, gotta cleanse the palate of some late, late 2009 favorites in steady rotation over the break thanks to the “All Mix Holiday Weekend” on Hot 97 (which let DJs like Enuff, Camilo, et al dictate their own shows for the most part).

Without fail, the standout sets were always club excursions, ALWAYS with a Jersey shout out, mixing “Percolator” with new tunes like DJ Frosty’s “Ride That Wave” – maybe more on that in another post… – and these midtempo, East Coast rap-n-b breaks, featuring all the tunes after the jump (along with the occasional Jay Elec-yarmulke “Exhibit C”). Jokers Of The Scene x Ryan Stec "Bright Lights Big City"

Posted on Jan 4th, 2010

“Bright Lights Big City” is a collaboration between artist Ryan Stec and Jokers of the Scene from this past October in Toronto: a city wide synesthetic experience using North America’s largest LED lighting system, the CN Tower. Visible from anywhere in the city, citizens needed only to tune into CIUT 89.5FM to participate.

JOTS have just uploaded their mix from the installation, which you can download here. Mood music! Full tracklist after the jump. Read More
