In case you’ve been living under a bass-proof rock the past few months: Greenmoney is Alex Phountzi (formerly of Bugz In The Attic crew) and Leo Greenslade (party selector extraordinaire behind London’s long-running YoYo bash), who combined forces to push a forward-thinking UK sound that’s still rooted in dance classics and their collective DJ / production history. You can hear the mash in action on their weekly radio show for Ministry Of Sound, and in featured guest sets on Annie Mac’s “Presents…” shows and in-demand club and festival appearances alongside Jack Beats, Sinden, Skream, Rusko, Fake Blood, and more.
Tune-wise, they’ve built up an extensive remixography over the past year (Kid Sister, Kid Cudi, Boy 8-Bit, Lily Allen), but their FG debut Gold Ru$h is the real deal mission statement: a blazingly hot mix of funky house, dancehall, and hip-hop like no other, featuring guest vocals from Serocee, Mz Bratt and Lady Chann over submarine kickdrums, attack snares and rave sirens galore. Remixes from young upstart Mele and house trailblazer Karizma round out the EP package and make this release a true must-have: grab exclusively at Juno Download, with all digital services to follow. Update: now on Beatport and iTunes!
For a tasty preview, download their Gold Ru$h promo mix, featuring tracks from the new EP alongside other remixes, exclusives from friends like Seiji, Donaeo and Mumdance, surprises… BIG CHOONS. You can also check them rocking the YoYo Glastonbury party this weekend, flyer (and mix tracklist) after the jump. Read More

Sorry I skipped two weeks y’all. But in that time, no shockers. Kanye, Ross and Jeezy still the hardest shit out (honorable mention to Vado: slime, it’s your time!), Drake album has its moments inbetween interminable amounts of r&b self-loathing, Eminem “comeback” LP 100% unlistenable – and I’m not trying to hear it about the production credits, I love Just and Khalil’s shit too but even the better tracks could have been Game album cuts if Jayceon was all AY CUZ AY MAKE THIS LIKE METALLICA UNFORGIVEN WITH TOO MUCH ORGAN AND WE WILL ROCK YOU DRUMS but thats a rant for another time. And ultimately a moot point, good beat + bad songwriting = bad music no matter how you attempt to justify otherwise. EXHALE. But why focus on the big dogs, here’s some joints you may have missed. You probably have heard about the Heaps Decent nonprofit currently fighting the good fight in Australia – if not, here’s the rundown. Last year on a day off from his shows on the Parklife tour, A-Trak went down to the Riverina Juvenile Justice Centre and put this track together with kids at the HD workshop.
Read the full story on the HD blog – they are offering the track for free to encourage you to spread the word about the program, and you can also make a donation to ensure that they can continue to bring music workshops like this to underprivileged kids for years to come.
