Foolcast 007 - Vin Sol “Swap Meet Heat”

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Longtime FG homie Vin Sol (of CALiGULA) recently made the leap from his native SF to good ole Brooklyn. Which means hangin out on the reg, good times on the reg, records on the reg!

His “Swap Meet Heat” mix for the Foolcast collects some of his favorite 12″ finds dug up since the big move (and spending every weekend hitting flea markets with Dust La Rock). It’s an extremely tasty collection of disco nugs, forgotten pop, jheri curl r&b, and more - it’s not about obscure records, just fun ones, which has always been an essential component of the Fool’s Gold approach to music.

Subscribe to the Foolcast via iTunes or your favorite RSS reader at the main Foolcast page, where you can also download the mix directly (right click and save-as). Check Vin rocking a party near you, and check his tracklist after the jump. (more…)

Come (After)Party With Chromeo + FG!

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

As we mentioned earlier, Chromeo bring their signature robofunk to NYC next Friday with an intimate Irving Plaza show. But if R Kelly has taught us anything (and lets be honest, he has taught us many things), after the show it’s the after party - which in this case is a FG-presented evening at Webster Hall featuring DJ sets from Chromeo, our very own Kingdom, and longtime homie (and new BK neighbor) Vin Sol. Not to be missed! It’s only $1 before midnight with RSVP.

For more Chromeo goodies, check out DJ Anonymous’ blog for his extended “disco edit” of “Night By Night” and hit Green Label Sound for the original + a brand new Skream remix of “Night By Night.” Or hell, why not just grab it from this gigantic embedded widget!

Dust La Rock Art Show Pics + Video

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Last Thursday’s “Best Of The Beast” opening was the place to be, as a couple hundred of our best friends and fam came out for Fool’s Gold art director Dust La Rock’s debut solo show. Queen Majesty, Vin Sol, Nick Catchdubs and Dave1 spun the tunes, Red Stripe and Vitamin Water provided refreshments, Fader debuted their new issue, Worship Worthy made sure everything ran smoothly and a literal who’s who of NYC’s creative community brought infinite good vibes to celebrate one of their own.

Check out these full photo galleries from Ian Meyer, Nicky Digital, Driven By Boredom (who also shot the event for Village Voice, Village Slum (a bunch more on Flickr too), as well as some recaps at Street Level, Hypebeast, RCRD LBL and Herald De Paris. Dust, Trizzy and Catch filmed a MTV News interview which should be up shortly, and in the meantime you can check some video of the show from Bongoboy along with A-Trak’s Flipcam Q&As with Haze and Sammy Bananas (along with some of our photo gallery favorites) after the jump.
