I keep a RAT folder on the desktop for all the new stuff that piques my interest enough for general column consideration, then pick through for standouts to post for you, the good people of the Fool’s Gold website. Tonight it’s not about the newest or the “best of,” we’re gonna go straight to the mp3 oddballs: Ryan Leslie radio commercials, mixtapes based on Trey Parker movies, and more of the raps that make you go hmmmmmm. (more…)
For just over half a year, I’ve been posting up jams every Thursday without any master plan or ulterior motives, other than wanting to share some new music and (maybe) a thought or two with y’all, no filler. So in the governing spirit of the column, I decided to simply re-upload ALL the tunes that have been posted here so far (aside from the full mixtapes, videos, etc) for a year end post, rather than put together some kind of wrap-up list or “best of” ranking. It’s more fun to have you dig into 120+ tunes and pick em yourself!
Of course, if you wanna go back and check the individual archives for my pithy comments and hyperlinks as they were originally uttered (typed?) I’m all for it - it’s just that random mp3 links on the interweb have a nasty habit of going dead ass dead. In fact, this whole schpiel was inspired by a comments-section request for the DJ Speedy-produced “Club Hoppin” by BP, a track to which Usershare was particularly unkind. (And the only joint I couldn’t dig back up on my own - please send it over if you have it!) Stay tuned for many, many more RATs in the new year.
Talking about talking about raps! Seems to be the week for it. I’m totally fine simply hypnotizing myself with the above for a little while longer. Grab Ms Nicki’s “I Gets Crazy” (a tune that “gets” a bigger and bigger response every night) back in RAT #14.
New Redman, teaser of some Clipse + Cam, a surprisingly good Travis Barker remix of Slaughterhouse (with guest Bun B verse) and three random raps from Louisiana Ca$h, ShamGar, and Hit Boy f. Chase N Cashe. (more…)
