Fool’s Gold BBall Wrapup

Monday, August 17th, 2009

Last week Fool’s Gold was proud to take part in Converse’s 1st annual “Band Of Ballers” tournament. As player/GM (ha!) I put together a scrappy team including Donnis and soopamanager D Solo, Sammy Bananas, and DJ Jayceeoh. NCAA experience, mustaches, high socks - we had it all. A-Trak suited up like a French Canadian Pat Riley on the sidelines as coach, and we took on the competition with championship swag while Cipha Sounds soundtracked it Miss Info and FG fan Peter Rosenberg did play-by-play. Did I mention there were video girls? Spectacle.

Game 1 was a resounding FG victory against the Mad Decent team, followed by a Game 2 loss to Jim Jones and fam. We still made the semi-finals though, where team FG sweated out a heartbreaker of an overtime loss (the only game to hit sudden death!) to Pac Div. They in turn lost to Jimmy’s team in the finals. Ah well, there’s always the next tourney. We played hard, had fun, and came away with a year’s worth of bragging rights against Diplo. Twitter that!

Check out the recaps from Village Voice, XXL, Dime, Complex, Nah Right and Miss Info’s blog. You can also peep our intern Loren’s exclusive pix from the stands. More links as we get em, Hot 97 video and some select photos after the jump. (more…)

“Mad Fools” Free In Central Park Next Sunday!

Friday, July 11th, 2008

Ever since we first started Fool’s Gold, we always considered Diplo’s Mad Decent to be our brother label in the North American music/DJ scene, and the feeling was mutual. We would constantly brainstorm ideas for ways our two labels could work together, and one of the most fun was a Post-It Note that simply read “MAD FOOLS RAVE IN THE WOODS.” We’re not quite there yet, but we’re getting closer with next Sunday’s (7.20) free Central Park SummerStage show, the first annual “Mad Fools” featuring Santogold, Diplo, A-Trak, Kid Cudi, Mz Streams with DJ Blaqstarr, and surprise guests. Get ready! And get there early - there will be free shirts featuring the above artwork by Dust La Rock and Mike Jones of Mishka. Afterparty details soon…

Trizzy Does Europe

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

Time for one of my long-winded tour novelas. I recently wrapped up a European tour that spanned the whole month of May, one which I arbitrarily named the Upper Crust Tour at the last minute, in honor of that beloved chain of sandwich shops found in almost all train stations. After doing a whole bunch of tours with other people — the Fool’s Gold fam, Mehdi, Kanye, etc — I felt like going off to clubland (Europe) and back to raw DJing practically every night for 4 weeks. Of course I wasn’t literally by myself the whole month. In most cities I was sharing bills with friends from either continent. But it did feel like a pilgrimage to the land of the DJ, and on off-days I would often link up with other producers and work on music. I loved it. I started a Flickr page towards the beginning of my trip so you can catch my full set of pics here. Let’s dive into it. (more…)
