On Friday, Saturday and Sunday I did 5 shows in 3 cities. You know what that means? A new blog for you, that’s what. I’m gonna throw Thursday in the mix too because I did some pretty neat stuff. So strap on your blog seatbelt and get ready for the ride. (more…)
One of the questions I get asked most often on MySpace, aside from “how old are you now?” and “are you REALLY the head of the Kwik-E-Mart?” is the name of this particular song. If you search my name on YouTube, this “A-Trak in China” clip is always the 1st or 2nd result, it’s taken from my DVD (Sunglasses Is A Must, a hood classic) and people always ask me about it. You wanna know? I’ll tell you who it is…. after the jump! (Ooooh snap!) (more…)
This video was sent to me by my buddy Jon Goldstein who’s one of Kanye’s light designers. That’s no small feat… For a long time Kanye’s LDs were like Spinal Tap drummers. He’d go through them like it ain’t no thang. But I digress. Remember my blog about Nigeria? Here’s an airport moment.
I was only back from Europe for 2 weeks when I boarded that cheap charter flight where they fed us President’s Choice TV dinners and headed back to Ye Olde Continent. First stop, Paris. I was booked to play a Vice party with that tall frenchman known as Busy P. Before the gig they had an Ed Banger in-store at Virgin where a special guest was advertised. That was me, I’m special. Hard to keep a surprise when I’m the only guy on Serato, going on stage to make sure they have the turntables plugged right. The Virgin Megastore is really big and it was fun to have an all-ages audience. They had us playing on a mixer that I don’t know and I spent my whole set looking for the “crossfader on” switch, but aside from that it went well! (more…)
Fool’s Gold meets the Swedish House Mafia, as Trizzy tours Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso’s villa in Ibiza. Check this, the previous episode of A-Trak TV (starring Busy P), and all future installments here.
Time for one of my long-winded tour novelas. I recently wrapped up a European tour that spanned the whole month of May, one which I arbitrarily named the Upper Crust Tour at the last minute, in honor of that beloved chain of sandwich shops found in almost all train stations. After doing a whole bunch of tours with other people — the Fool’s Gold fam, Mehdi, Kanye, etc — I felt like going off to clubland (Europe) and back to raw DJing practically every night for 4 weeks. Of course I wasn’t literally by myself the whole month. In most cities I was sharing bills with friends from either continent. But it did feel like a pilgrimage to the land of the DJ, and on off-days I would often link up with other producers and work on music. I loved it. I started a Flickr page towards the beginning of my trip so you can catch my full set of pics here. Let’s dive into it. (more…)
There’s been a ton of great FG snaps on the internets over the past week or two. A-Trak went and started his own Flickr page, currently featuring shots from Summer Jam, his “Upper Crust” European tour, and Coachella. Mel from Village Slum also has some shots of us Fools at Summer Jam and the Wale mixtape party on his Flickr, and to take it to the West Coast for a sec, here’s some Kid Cudi Cinespace flicks from The Cobra Snake.
Check out Grotesk’s 12ozPROPHET blog feature on FG art director Dust La Rock’s personal (and dare we say PRETTY FRICKIN SWEET) collection of vintage adidas and related Olympic memorabilia. It’s a welcome little look into the mind of the man who makes us all look good!
First things first, make sure you check out the official recaps of the Screaming Bloody Murder tour here and here. We did 8 untamed shows in 10 days, it felt like a barbarous blitz of rave riot. Sammy Bananas is the new official mascot of Fool’s Gold and his mustache couldn’t have been more timely. Steve is a dynamo, I don’t know where he gets his energy. And Sinden is my brother from a British mother. I can officially say the 2nd Fool’s Gold tour was a smash hit, and before I could even catch up with any sleep I was off to Coachella. (more…)
The Fool’s Gold posse flew to Miami last Wednesday for some festivities of the Winter Music variety. When we arrived in fabulous South Beach we were famished so we linked up with our buddies Boys Noize, Steve Aoki, MSTRKRFT and LA Riots who were all about to grab dinner. What we didn’t know was that the MSTR boys had made reservations at the fanciest, strangest, most blog-worthy restaurant in the 305. From the outside this place Prime 112 looked more like a club than anything else. When our turn finally came we realized that from the inside it was actually closer to a hotel in the sense that every party got their own private room with not only a dining table but a TV, a couch, a bed, a bathroom… They served plates that were big enough to be shared by 5-7 people. We ordered the mother of all surf & turfs. The lobster was 4.5 pounds. My girlfriend’s dog is about that size. (more…)
