Rappin Ass Thursdays #18

This week we have Young Money vs Travis Porter, Playaz Circle w Lil Wayne, Da Undagods (aka Keith Murray and… Canibus!), Strong Arm Steady w The Jacka (and Madlib!) and De La Soul. Now THAT is a coalition, people! I’m a uniter not a divider.

Young Money f. Lloyd “Bed Rock” [mp3]
Travis Porter “A.D.D.I.D.A.S.” [mp3]
I love this Kane Beatz instrumental, its another one of those pop punk major key chord progressions (G#, A#, D#, Dm, Cm) along the lines of what’s been sneaking into a lot of southern stuff lately. Mostly due to Llloyd, Young Money have a better “song” on the beat, but Travis Porter sound younger, louder, and snottier.

Playaz Circle f. Lil Wayne “Big Dawg” [mp3]
See what I said about them chords?!?

Da Undergods “No Brainer” [mp3]
Apparently Keith Murray and Canibus are good for more than wild promo photos these days. Though I wish Redman was on this. Nice flip of Raymond Scott “Powerhouse” (aka the Looney Tunes factory music).

Strong Arm Steady f The Jacka “Loose Girl” (prod Madlib) [mp3]
Jacka + Madlib, niiiiiice…

De La Soul “La La La” [mp3]
Loose nugget off the NBA Live soundtrack. Really don’t want to get deeper than “I like it” or “it’s groovy” on this, it will probably get filed away with the other loose moments (“Rock Co.Kaine Flow”, the Paul McCartney joint on AOI II) from the “grown up” era of De La that actually do something for me. The other tunes aren’t bad, I just don’t find myself getting particularly excited to listen to them again. Posdnous I’m happy for you and I’ma let you finish, but Buhloone Mind State is one of the best records of ALL TIME!!!
