You can get 320GB Internal notebook drives for like $80 on Newegg.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136197

Installing them in older MBPs can be a bit scary, but its not hard. Contrary to popular belief the process will not void your warranty, however Apple will not provide Applecare service to computers with 3rd party components. So, you will just need to keep the original apple HD and swap it in if you have to bring it in for any reason.

Use the google to find a walkthrough. You'll need a Torx T-6 screwdriver, available at most radio shacks & home depot.

yo, a.
greets from the steel city.

i was lookin' for info online about how to download movies from my dvr to my mac, and stumbled across this. sounds like MAYBE what happened to you wasn't a problem with the drives, but with the cable:

"Warning about 6 pin firewire connections.

The 6 pin firewire connection system includes power on the connector and cables. Occasionally a defective cable, connector, or computer interface can allow the cross connection of power or data lines, resulting in equipment damage."

anyway...glad you got it sorted.

They are a great Canadian company based in MTL plus their service is unprecedented. They are know as kings in the digital media world and we use their drives all the time for Video back up.

Here's an idea...

Buy an external enclosure and slip 3.5" and 2.5" hard-drives in and out of that thing. Less money, more storage juice.

Big internal drive for the win. I had a rugged drive shit the bed on me on tour in Denmark last year and after that I just bought a bigger internal and never looked back. External drives will fuck you sooner or later. Really really sucks that you had to learn the hard way.
